From The Authors This novel is dedicated to Friendship, within that broad net all the family and friends who have stood by us with unending faith, support, and, at times, bail. We want to thank everyone, from friends in sunny Californian beach towns to family in ancient European cities, and all points in between; this novel wouldn’t be possible without you. The book you hold in your hands took over four years to produce, its first draft penned in 1999. It was almost scrapped after that horrific day in September, 2001, and would have become another forgotten piece among the wreckage of our collective innocence – an orphan borne unto a new era of blind patriotism, and an eternal War on Terror, were it not for the course this Great Nation has taken since then. Today the war rages on two fronts: on the battlefields of the desert and in the hearts and minds of the world. In this time of fear and uncertainty, we felt this story to be even more pertinent, retrieved it from the ashes, and bring it to you in its present form. We are undertaking all the editing, copy, printing, and marketing of “Surveillance” for three rounds, this being the first. As a first round reader, you are a vital part of this project.
